Packing Tips (Oral Mediation)

In this B2.1 Interlinguistic (Spanish-English) Oral Mediation Task students are asked to go through an infographic giving tips about how to best pack your suitcase for a trip. They’ll need to pass the information on to someone who does not have access to the information due to the language barrier. The situation is described in the task instructions and introduced by a WhatsApp message:

It is perfect to train students’ ability to select the relevant information for a given situation according to the details provided in the context. They will also activate several microskills like avoiding repetitions, paraphrasing, connecting with previous knowledge, and even enumerating. Needless to say, they will also need to adapt the message to the recipient.

This task has been designed so it can be used for B2.1 Mediation Exam Training, serving as training both for students and for teachers. For the latter, we have included in the Teacher’s Worksheet a guide with examples of the strategies and microskills that mediators are likely to use when they are relaying the message.
